You'll be wanting your partner or close friends to read it too so you can talk about it

I won't talk about the plot, since other reviewers have already said a lot about it. You will find this book full of good feelings. It is totally recommended if you want to escape into a good story, in a pleasant small town in Silicon Valley. It is the kind of book that will leave a smile on you face. But not only smiles, there are very hilarious situations that make you laugh out loud. You'll be wanting your partner or close friends to read it too so you can talk about it with them, like you do with movies. It is full of dialogue and internal thoughts of the characters, revealing the personalities of Sara, Ian and the others, and bringing you closer to them. The unexpected turn at the end and the resolution is very engaging and fun. You can't stop reading till the end! I just bought it yesterday and read it in a few hours!

Amooi has become one of the writers I follow, even though Romance is not my favorite genre. This is the third comedy in a row that I've read from him, and I've given them all 5 stars in my reviews. His books leave me wanting more stories like these. Congrats Mr. Amooi, you can be proud of this new story. I will recommend it to everyone I know.

A fun, cute, and sweet book

After being submerged in thrillers for two weeks I needed a change, I needed to read something fun, cute and sweet and lucky for me I had just the perfect book, Kissing Frogs by Rich Amooi.

Geography teacher Sara Larson is not only happy that school is over, she also happy with her new house. Two months of vacations awaits her and she plans to sleep in everyday, but her neighbor has other plans for her. He is a sculptor who likes to start the day early, too early for Sara’s taste.
Sara can’t believe she is being awakened with a ruckus at seven in the morning on a Sunday. Even her poor dog Kili is missing her sleep. With no other option, she goes next door to ask her new neighbor to keep it quiet. What Sara wasn’t expecting was the nice specimen of a man that opened the door. After the confrontation, Sara perplexedly returns to her house. Her new neighbor, Ian, is not only hot as hell; he is also fun and smart. Sara knows she is in trouble, because after her last experience she promised herself never to date a neighbor again. She won’t succumb to Ian’s charms, even now that she’s desperate to find a date to go to her nemesis’ wedding in a month’s time, for that she has online dating.
Ian likes his new crabby neighbor. She is beautiful, funny and the chemistry between them is something they can’t deny. He knows she doesn’t date neighbors, but he is willing to do everything in his power to make her break her rule because he knows they are good together.

I liked Sara, she was a beautiful person and a great friend. After learning about her past it was easy to understand why she didn’t want to date her neighbor. Seeing her experience with online dating was incredibly entertaining. Her dates were all unusual, comical, but the best part they were believable.

Ian was a delightful character. I liked that he was cute, smart and caring. I loved how he was with his grandparents and with his best friend. I also liked what he did for Sara at the end, that showed how committed he was to make things work between them.

The chemistry between Sara and Ian was very obvious since their first encounter. I liked how things develop slowly between them. I also liked to see them fight what they were feeling, but failing in the intent. They are a cute couple, one that made me believe in their HEA.

The secondary characters make the story even more entertaining. Ian’s best friend, Billy, was hilariously funny as was Sara’s friend, Becky.

One thing I like about Rich Amooi’s books is that there is always a furry friend in them. I like that they are not just fillings in the story, they make an important part of it. In Kissing Frogs we have Kili, a beautiful and lovely Saint Bernard who eats everything she can find and is not aware of her size or her weight.

As I said before, Kissing Frogs by Rich Amooi is a fun, cute, and sweet book. Kissing Frogs is the perfect beach or pool read. It’s also the perfect book for those days when you want to read something that will make you smile and laugh out loud couple of times. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite romantic comedies

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one sitting. I just could not put it down! I loved the style, it's really fun and easy to read. I loved all the characters, especially Sara and Ian, they're both sweet and charming and you cannot help but falling for them right away. And above all, I loved the story, it's sweet and cute and funny, it has the right pace, and I got absorbed into it from the very first pages. It is just the perfect book to read on a summer day while you are enjoying your vacation. It achieves the right balance of being sweet and funny while keeping the story interesting without dragging it along too much. It is my favorite book by Rich Amooi so far. I cannot wait to read the next one!

Lite reading for the uninitiated

If you know nothing of the Beatles and want to learn a little something about the inspiration behind each of their songs, then this book might be for you. If, however, you want something more in-depth and insightful you will be very disappointed with this one. It consist of mostly one paragraph descriptions gathered mostly from anecdotal information or newspaper clippings of the time. Very little is original material. There are tons of photos, again almost all we've seen before. But this book mostly suffers from glaring typo's and clumsy language suggesting a very amateurish author. I gave it low marks because of this.

Everything we know (to date) of every Beatles song (to date)

In the music unit my Popular Culture class we look at the songs of the Beatles, specifically those collected on their "Beatles 1" album. Students write a paper looking at the stages of the group as defined by the songs on that album and sometimes they find things on the Internet that talk about how John Lennon and Paul McCartney (and George Harrison for "Something") came to write their songs. Unfortunately that has little to do with putting these songs into distinct chronological stages, but after reading "A Hard Day's Write" you can see where they would be fascinated by some of these stories and forget to just listen to the songs and decide for themselves what they are about and what makes them work.

Steve Turner provides the stories behind every one of the Beatles songs, including "Free As a Bird" and all the songs from "Anthology" and "Live at the BBC" that would not be covered by the other albums. The book is divided into 14 chapters representing 17 albums ("Magical Mystery Tour" and "Yellow Submarine" are combined, as are the three "Anthology" albums). Turner is following the British albums and including those songs that ended up on the two "Masterworks" collections with the albums that were being recorded (e.g., "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "With the Beatles," "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Field Forever" with "Sgt. Pepper"). It does not include the songs by other writers that the Beatles covered during their early years.

Turner makes the point that this is not a book that is attempting to explain what the Beatles "were really trying to say," but tells us about the ideas and inspirations behind these songs, as well as dispelling some of the popular myths connected to some of these songs. You have probably heard about some of these, such as Peter Fonda telling John Lennon "I know what its like to be dead" leading to "She Said She Said," the Victorian poster about "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" and Julian Lennon's drawing of his friend "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." But know you can also learn about the real location of not only "Penny Lane" but also "Blue Jay Way," who was the real "Polythene Pam," and what happened when the Beatles mentioned Denis O'Dell in "You Know My Name."

Nor does Turner present this book as the definitive one on the subject, since that cannot be written until everything the Beatles have to say about their songs is made public. However, he did track down and interview the real-life subjects of these songs as well as going through public records and newspaper archives, and speaking in depth to some of the people who were closest to the Beatles back in the sixties. Turner also provides a brief introduction to each album that talks about where the Beatles were in their careers at that point, such as how "Revolver" represented a significant development in the Beatles' sound since their music was now being created in the studio with no thought for how it could be played in concert (the album came out during their final tour but none of its 14 songs were ever played on stage by the band). So Turner does pay some attention to things other than the individual songs.

The back of the book contains a chronology for the beats from the births of Ringo Starr and John Lennon in 1940 to Paul McCartney filing a suit against the Beatles and Co. to dissolve the partnership, a discography from 1962-1996, a bibliography, and index. There are also over 200 photographs, some in color, many of which are on point with regards to specific songs (e.g., you get to see the gravestone of Eleanor Rigby, the real Bungalow Bill, and the Apple Scruffs who came in through the bathroom window. No matter what level of fan you are of the Beatles you should find plenty of interest and stories you have never heard before. At the very least, you can learn something new about your favorite Beatles songs.

I was surprised to see that this book was printed on glossy pages. I think it has the same size as a bond paper which also surprised me because I thought this was going to look like a regular paperback book. I bought this for my friend but I still haven't given it to her since her birthday is nowhere near today's date. Hopefully, she will love it. Fingers crossed!

Not too keen on this

I don't know if it was the class or the text that made me dislike this subject. This subject seems to be in place because people are forgetting how to be professional and writing memos with "instant messenger" style grammar. Maybe this text book will help the new generation become more professional, or maybe it was a complete waste of my money.

Excellent Condition, Came in a Timely Manner

I ordered two copies of this book on a Monday and by Thursday the box containing them was on my doorstep. I skimmed through the pages, and did not see any writing or highlighting despite the "used" condition. The only evidence that the books may have been used before is some very light marks on the cover and a slight bending of the bottom right corner. The price was certainly right as well -- in my school's bookstore, the books were over $160 apiece, and the used copies here were just about $20 each. Great price, great condition, and great shipping time. I definitely would recommend getting the book on Amazon.

Description: The 2006 and the 2009 editions of the International Building Code (IBC) require the use of a dynamic analysis procedure for the seismic design of a building under certain conditions of irregularity, occupancy, and height. However, dynamic analysis procedures are more complicated than the more traditional static procedure, and over the years, many questions have been asked about code provisions concerning this. This publication has been created to answer these questions and demystify the application of the code. This publication addresses the two methods by which a designer may comply with the seismic design requirements of the 2006/2009 IBC: Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure (ASCE 7-05 Section 12.8) and Dynamic Analysis Procedure (ASCE 7-05 Section 12.9 and Chapter 16). Although ASCE 7-05 (the 2006 and the 2009 IBC) formally recognizes two dynamic analysis procedures: modal response spectrum analysis and time-history analysis, the modal response spectrum analysis is by far the more common in design office usage and is the primary subject of this publication. The background and details are explained in Chapter 1 of this publication where a step-by-step analysis procedure is given, and a three-story, one-bay frame example is solved entirely manually to illustrate application of the procedure. Chapter 2 of this publication is devoted exclusively to the detailed design of a 20-story reinforced concrete building that utilizes a dual shear wall-frame interactive system for earthquake resistance. Modal response spectrum analysis is used as the basis of design. Design utilizing the Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure is also illustrated as a prerequisite to design using the Dynamic Analysis Procedure. A key feature of this example that would be of particular interest to users is the design of reinforced concrete shear walls by the procedure in the 2005 and 2008 editions of ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.

The couple responded and adopted Stephanie. Stephanie Fast has been an internationally known public speaker who has impacted hundreds of thousands of lives with her compelling life story that began as an abandoned Korean War orphan. She lives in Oregon with her husband, Darryl, and to her great joy near their children and grandchildren.

Such a great story of hope!

Stephanie Fast shares her story of being abandoned as a child, being found, and eventually being taken in under the wings of a family. She was brought into this world as part Korean and American, which wasn't accepted in the Korean culture her mother was a part of. She was called a terrible name, which meant something horrible. When her mom took her somewhere so she could travel to be with another family member, a series of devastating events happen while she is lost. She ends up in a place that others probably sometimes die at. She continues to tell her story of how she suffered even after life got better for her later.

This is an amazing story of survival, hope, and the start of a healing process I believe Stephanie went through. I liked how she shared this not just as her story but also in a way that tells how her story is so much like the stories of others who went through (and some are currently going through) the same type of thing that she went though as a orphan. I know that no two stories about surviving as an orphan are the same, but I learned from reading this book that they often go through some of the same life experiences and feel some type of emotional pain and have emotional scars later in life. The open letter from Stephanie at the end gave me some anticipation about hopefully reading her next book about how she lived after she survived the devastation she endured.

I believe this will be a great book for people that are currently orphans to read, to give them some hope. I also believe it will be a good book for people to read who are thinking about, are in the process of, and who have already adopted a child.

Prepare to be moved

Imagine. Imagine that everyone around you treats you differently from others. Imagine that they call you "tougee" and even though you don't understand what the word means, you know how it makes you feel. Imagine that you are abandoned by your family, left on a train...alone. Imagine that you have to make your way in the world and that nobody will help you. Imagine that you have to survive harsh winters, dig up, catch or steal food and make clothes out of straw for warmth. Now imagine that at the start of your journey you are only four years old.

In her new book She is Mine, author Stephanie Fast takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster as she describes in horrifying detail the trying ordeal she endured as a young girl struggling to survive in South Korea following the Korean War. The daughter of an American soldier and an unwed Korean mother, this nameless child is unwanted and unwelcomed not just by her family, but by everyone she meets.

As you read this account, you will not help but become emotionally involved in the story, turning page after page, praying for a good outcome, for someone to take notice. As a parent your heart will ache for this child, for the physical and emotional trauma she suffers and the innocence that is lost. You will shed tears of sorrow as you are reminded of the tender young age of the one suffering. You will want to hold onto your own children tightly and vow again to shield them from all the darkness of this world. As a human being you will be enraged at the countless abuses she endures by total strangers simply because she was born of the wrong parents. Through it all, your soul will give thanks as you see the hand of Providence in the rare kindnesses shown.

In many ways, this book would be at home on a shelf in the "Horror" section of a book store because it is truly a horror story. It is also a story of survival, of living, when it seems impossible. Perhaps, the most compelling (and the most horrifying thing) about it is that it is a true story. It really happened. It still happens today. Ms. Fast writes "At this moment, there are an estimated 143 million orphans throughout the world who have been abandoned or abused. All are crying out or a caring person to deliver them from the hands of their oppressors."

If you are not prepared to be moved... if you are not prepared to be shaken to the core with abundant emotion, do not read this book. However, if you are willing to open your mind to the plight of millions of children, then pick up this book. Sit down, open it, read it, weep, mourn and prepare to be changed as your mind is made aware not just of tragedy but also of hope that exists all around you..

A life-changing story that you must read

I read this entire book in one night because I simply could not put it down. Just an incredible story on so many levels. I don't think I could survive if left outside for a week, let alone as a young helpless child left alone to survive for years. God's hand is so apparent throughout this story, and I was greatly moved and greatly encouraged by Stephanie's transparency. May God bless this book and give us all a heart to reach out and help the helpless around the world.

Jeff Kirkham is a master sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces. He owns and operates Praetorian Innovations LLC, providing paramilitary training, evaluation, operational planning, and mission oversight in hostile combat environments.
