Nice Book On Labrador Retreivers!

This is an inexpensive but quite accessible book about training Labs, a no nonsense nuts and bolts primer for the new caretaker of a the best dog breed yet devised by the Heavens; the Labrador Retriever. As someone who shares his house and life with four of God's single most nearly perfect craeature, I can testify as to the accuracy and relevance of all the information in this wonderful compendium. It is a literal treasure trive of data about how to raise and care for your new best friend, and it covers everything from potty training to kennel care.

As a personal note, it is improtant to remember how sensitive Labs are, that one never ever strikes one, and that gently scolding them will get you the reaction you want much more efficiently than would any unjustified corporal punishment. Just remember, friends, there are really no bad dogs; only ignorant and incompetent people trying in vain to train the dogs. What you need to avoid such pitfalls is all here! Enjoy!

As a breeder of Labrador Retrievers, I found this a very thorough beginner's book for buying, raising and training a Lab! It is not very long, yet it contains the basics! I bought one of these books for each of the new puppy families from our last litter to give them as a gift from our kennel! I will do the same again for future litters!

Audrey Pavia"s book portrays the Labrador as an all around fun loving family dog. If you don't own one after reading this book you will probably want to acquire one. She is very thorough in her chapters on health and training. Her chapter five (Understanding Your Lab) is an excellent and easy to understand study of canine behavior. Her chapters on whether to breed or not to breed your Labrador are very thoughtful. It is a well written,handy manual for a Labrador owner... or would be owner.

About the Author
Camp Kirkland graduated from Florida State University with Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees, and went on to teach band at the elementary, secondary and collegiate levels. He has performed on euphonium and trombone with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra,River City Brass Band and a number of touring bands and orchestras. Camp is best known for his pioneer work in reestablishing instrumental music as a viable medium in today’s church. His position as Instrumental Director at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville was the first of its kind. With several hundred choral and instrumental publications, Camp Kirkland remains a leader in the church orchestra growth phenomenon. He is also much in demand as a conductor and seminar clinician. Camp is currently a free lance composer and arranger residing with his wife, Fran, in Florida.

This was a welcome surprise. It's hard to find quality erotica out there and this was just great. The premise is super hot and the characters are well drawn and dimensional. I could have done without the enema but that's just me. Some people are into that. I also wanted more description of the guy's messed-up face, but overall those two things didn't detract from the story. Georgia Foxx hits up all the thrills and builds suspense while she's doing it. A professional!

About the Author

E.M. Berens was a scholar and author who wrote more than a half a dozen books on Greek and Roman mythology. Unlike other Classics scholars of his time, Berens wrote accessible stories that explored the myths and other oral traditions of ancient peoples rather than simply researching the history of their worship of the gods. Berens' seminal work, The Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, was published in 1894.

BEN LYTTLETON is a journalist and broadcaster who has written for Sports Illustrated and Time, among other publications, and is Bloomberg TV’s on-air soccer analyst. He is also a director of Soccernomics, the soccer consultancy. He lives in London. This is his first book.

An entire book devoted to penalty kicks

This sentence in the description of this book is a good description of the penalty kick: “The penalty kick is soccer in its purest form: kicker, goalkeeper, ball.” The distance between the ball and the goal is twelve yards. Since the goal is quite large and the goalkeeper cannot move until the kicker makes his move, it sounds easy for the kicker, right? This book by Ben Lyttleton illustrates that is not necessarily true all the time.

Like the title says, the psychology of the penalty kick is covered in the book. For this, Lyttleton uses a variety of sources – studies that have been devoted to measuring success on penalty kicks, interviews with players, coaches and others who have been involved in soccer and stories from famous games that were decided by penalty kick shootouts, including World Cup games, championship matches in various leagues and even some friendly matches as well.

There is no one consensus on the mindset of the kicker and the goalkeeper, and Lyttleton does a good job of presenting all sides to this argument. From an expert who states a penalty kick is “90% psychological and 10% physical” to famous players who have missed penalty kicks saying that it wasn’t mental at all, just misplayed, the reader will be peppered with stories, interviews, game recaps and studies all devoted to that one play that is full of drama – the penalty kick.

No matter what topic a reader can think of about a penalty kick, this book has it covered. Does the kicker or the goalkeeper truly have the advantage? It is addressed. If the reader wants to read about famous players and their experiences in this situation, many are covered – Pele, Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, and Zinedine Zidane are just a few of the sport’s legends who are mentioned in this book. How about famous shootouts, such as those that won World Cup tournaments in 1994 (men), 1999 (women) and 2006 (men)? Those are in the book as well.

This makes the book a great source of information on this simple but pressure-packed play. Overall, it is a good and entertaining read. Some of the statistical sections and reports on studies about the psychology were a tougher read, but overall this was an entertaining and fun book that soccer fans everywhere and of any level should enjoy.

Pace of the book:
It was a very smooth read during most of the book when the author was sharing stories, interviews and recaps but did seem to drag during the sections with statistical analysis, as I skimmed most of those sections after reading the theory behind the statistics.

Do I recommend?
No matter what level of soccer fan a reader may be, there is something for everyone in this book. Many of the stories are entertaining, and one does not have to know about the history of the players, referees or teams involved to enjoy reading these stories about those twelve yards between the kicker and the goalkeeper when a penalty kick is called.
