Kindle implementation disappointing
By Joshua Rosenbloom
I bought this guide for the Kindle because I thought it would be great to have access to the information on my kindle and phone rather than having to lug the paper book around. But the navigation in the book was terrible, very hard to move back and forth between locations or to search for information about locations. And the maps were poorly reproduced so almost unusable on a mobile device. The e-book medium should be perfect for guidebooks, but the publishers need to move beyond simply porting the print edition.
Content of the guide itself was OK.

An essential tool
By J. L. Jenkins
I've used the Lonely Planet guides for years - not just for Paris, but for France and other countries. I've been very happy with the hotels I've used that were recommended by them. The current Paris edition has a good selection in various locations, in various price ranges (although nowadays, there are fewer budget choices, and even these are more expensive!). It goes into detail on sights, again in various locations throughout the city). And eating, nightlife, etc. The sections on practical information and language are good too. There are maps of each section of Paris, plus a pull out map of the entire city, which includes a map of the Metro and RER. In spite of this, I'd pick up, while in Paris un plan de Paris (available at most kiosks) for lists of bus routes in case you decide to travel by bus (be careful though: some "plans" include all bus stops; others don't). In spite of all the information, the book is compact enough to fit in your suitcase or carry on bag. Don't, as the saying goes, leave home without it!

My first e-LP
By Marin
I was a bit worried of buying an e-book travel guide, especially about maps. While I think maps are better in paper book they were ok on my iphone as i could zoom in, but not good on my Kindle (i have an old one). Otherwise, it was great to not have to carry the book and very convenient to click to further information etc
The worst thing and smth that definately needs improvement is the bit on language! It seems that this bit was just scanned and with bad quality and I found it impossible to read, even when I zoomed in on my phone. I was disappointed as i had counted on it to refrech my French!
Still I am sure that from now on I will use e-books as it means i dont have to carry the book around and the information is easier to find by just clicking!;)
